Aims and Scope

The International Journal of Contemporary Psychiatry (IJCP) is the official journal of the Psychiatry Department of Kasr Al Ainy, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. It is published  on bi-annual basis and allows free of charge publication and APC .  

IJCP is a peer reviewed journal that aims to disseminate state of the art knowledge on significant and exceptional clinical studies in psychiatry, as well as research developments in the mental health field. Using a language that can be comprehended by the vast majority of mental health professionals worldwide.

The scope of the journal comprises broad areas of psychiatry, psychiatric disorders and mental health research.

The IJCP  covers the following topics in psychiatry & mental health research:

  • Infant & Child psychiatry including psychiatric disorders that primarily manifest and emerge in very young population.

  • Adolescent psychiatry including psychiatric disorders that primarily manifest and emerge in adolescent population.

  • Disorders of adult behavior, comprising psychological assessment & management whether psychopharmcology or /& ECT

  • Personality disorders including psychological assessment and management.

  • Psychotic disorders including schizophrenia & related psychopharmacology.

  • Affective disorders including depression and bipolar disorders & related psychopharmacology.

  • Addiction & substance-related disorders, behavioral addiction, & impulsive behaviors.

  • Stress and anxiety disorders and phobias including severe and traumatic stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

  • Eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and eating disorders not otherwise specified.

  • Women Psychiatry, and women related mental health issues.

  • Geriatric psychiatry and cognitive disorders including dementia, geriatric depression, MCI, cognitive impairment and delirium.

  • Psychiatric molecular genetics including gene-environment interaction in psychiatric disorders, pharmacogenetics, endophenotypes, epigenetics, gene expression and genome-wide association studies, linkage association studies,

  • Sleep disorders including insomnia and stress related sleep disorders.

  • Integrative psychiatry, therapy and provision of mental health care including psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, & psychiatric rehabilitation..

  • Psychiatric Epidemiology, quality assurance, auditing & community mental health

  • Prevention, causes, treatment and management of suicide, aggression, excitement, etc..
